Kids Can Create a Halloween Story

Kids love to create, whether it is art, a story, something to build, etc.

Here you will find a Halloween book made just for helping children create Halloween stories.

Halloween book for kids

Each page begins with either a picture prompt, a written prompt, or both.

sample page from Halloween book

There is a box at the top of each page; most have a picture already in the box that can be added to. Or the box is blank so the child can draw their own image suggested by the written prompt.

There is a line at the top of each page, above the picture, where the child can write the title for their story.

There are solid and dashed lines below the picture box for the children to write their story, based on the picture in the box.

There are approximately 1.25 pages allotted for each story, and enough pages for 31 stories in all. That's a lot of creative writing for the kids!

You can check the book out on Amazon. It is called 31 Days of Creating Halloween Stories: Halloween Story Writing and Drawing Journal for Kids.

I hope that you and your child/children enjoy this fun and creative writing activity.

USA Patriotic Postcards for the 4th of July

Welcome to USA Patriotic Postcards for the 4th of July. Here you will find a modern selection of red white and blue postcards for your holiday celebrations, greetings, and get togethers. The first design features my painting inspired by the United States of America flag, with a bit of re-arranging. I continued the stripes across the top, made the stars blue and arranged them into a peace sign.

Fireworks are a big part of the 4th of July celebrations in America. This design is star themed as well. The end of each tail has a blue star on it and the tails streaming behind the stars are red. The whole design is on a background of white, and Happy 4th, is written across the display in blue.

Flowers signify growth to me. This next design features my abstract flower inspired by the stars and stripes. The center of the flower is outlines of two yellow golden stars; the petals are red and white stripes, and the leaves are blue and white stripes.

If more basic is your preference, here is my painting of Old Glory, done in pointillism. The background color shown is lavender, and it can be customized to any color of your selection.

For another more modern patriotic design is my stars and stripes heart design. There are two stars in blue, slightly behind a heart done in red and white stripes. The background color is light blue and it can be customized to your color selection.

This last postcard option features stars sans the stripes. This is my painting of whites stars, outlined in blue, arranged in a star pattern. I chose red as the background color, which can be customized if you like.

Hope you have enjoyed my artwork. The above links will take you to my CherylsArt store on Zazzle, a print on demand company. Zazzle offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee within 30 days of your receipt of the item(s).Zazzle prints and ships your order; I created the designs.

Order of Statehood Maps of the United States

If you are looking for a visual representation for the order of statehood for the United States, you've come to the right place. I did a painting of a map of the United States in shades of purple. The darkest purple is the first state. As the other states gained statehood, the color for those states is lighter than the state that had gained statehood before it.

This first map is printed on posters. The darkest purple represents the first state, Delaware. The next lighter shade of purple represents the second state, Pennsylvania, and so on. All the way to the 48th state which is represented by the lightest shade of lavender. The corresponding number for the order of statehood is printed in white on each state.

I like how one can see the progression; it begins on the east coast with the purples and darker shades of lavender, gets around half way across the country, and then the medium lavender color jumps across to California before lighter shades of lavender start filling in the western half of the U. S.

How this project came about:

I was out shopping for wood plaques and I saw wooden maps of the United States. I just knew that I wanted to do something with that map, so I bought it. I looked forward to what I might create on it.

I considered a map of state birds or state flowers. But a lot of states didn't really have the room for such an endeavor.

However, the idea of flowers got me to thinking. I wondered what kind of flower the United States might look like if I painted each state a different shade according to the order of their statehood. I imagined perhaps that it might look like two carnations, one starting from each coast. Hmmm, sounded interesting.

What color should this "flower" be, I wondered. Carnations comes in a variety of colors. The flag of the United States is red, white, and blue. Perhaps from red to pink, or dark blue to light blue. But I didn't want it to represent any one political party. Well red and blue make purple, and white will make each shade a bit lighter. Purple it shall be then, something that represents all parties.

As a fun and educational activity, students can write the number in on a smaller version of the map. I found that I started remembering more of the order with each activity that I did when creating this map.

Do you think this visual representation will help students learn more about the order of statehood? Let me know in the comments below.

Make All Votes Count Voting Tips

Here are some tips to help ensure that your vote, ballot will count.

1. For paper ballots, fill in the circle next to the candidate that you are voting for. Circling the candidates name disqualifies the ballot.

2. Only vote for the maximum number of candidates allowed, or less, for that section. Voting for more than the maximum number allowed for any section can disqualify the ballot.

3. Sign your ballot. Ballots without a signature are disqualified.

4. If hand delivering your ballot to your voting office, make sure that a postmark isn't required for your state. New York had disqualified ballots in the primary because they didn't have a postmark on them. This was however reversed and the ballots were counted. So just check things out up front to make the process easier from the start.

Any of the above reasons were why ballots were not counted in the Primary elections. So be sure to follow the instructions. If you know anyone who may not understand the instructions, please give them some guidance on the correct way of filling out their ballots, to help ensure that their ballots will be counted too.

I have made some business cards and posters with the basic tips on them, for ease of sharing this information. Please do share this blog and or the business cards and or posters to help more votes be counted in our election.

The basic tips are printed on the back of the business cards:

The posters are 8-1/2 by 11 inches and they can be ordered on smaller and or some larger sizes.

May your vote be counted.

Custom Music Themed Tote Bags

Here you will find a variety of music themed tote bags; some of which can easily be personalized.

This first one features my drawing of a wavy music scale with notes that represent a little tune that I made up, at least to my knowledge. This one is easily personalized by using the provided template form.

This is what it looks like if you would like to order them without a name. Whichever design you like, you can select a different style and or bag color if it is available.

This music themed bag are for guitar lovers. It features a simple outline drawing of an acoustic guitar.

If you prefer colorful, this bag's for you. I made multiple guitar drawings and filled them in with color! This bag has a template form to personalize with a name.

This design is for those who like to sing. The design was inspired by my daughter, when she was a teen. It features a girl singing with her hands raised high. The text Sing on is printed on the bag, with the girl in between the two words. The text can be customized with a message, name, etc.

Enjoy.

Although I chose to make this painting about gardening, the green thumb can also simply represent yes. The choice is yours.

If you do have a green thumb type gardening business or are making one, here are some business cards and tshirts to help get you started.

The design is also on the front of the tshirt, and the additional contact info is on the back.

Okay, Ok tshirts and more

I had told my daughter that I was going to make a new hand design, one with the symbol for okay.

She told me that the hand symbol for okay had other meanings to it that weren't necessarily so good.

So I did some research on it and found that yes, the symbol was being used for other meanings, but I also noticed that the direction of the hand was different for these so called other meanings.

I decided that okay means okay. And to clear up any confusion with the original intent, I added the word, ok, spelled with two letters, on the hand painting; so if there was any doubt or wondering, the person or persons could also just read the letters.

It is time for okay, or ok, to mean okay.

By the way, I used my own hand print to make this positive affirmation design.

This hand print design is ready for purchase on tshirts at my CherylsArt store on Zazzle.com.

When on Zazzle, you can also transfer this design onto other products; I will also be adding it to more products myself, on Zazzle.

You can also purchase this ok hand design on products that are printed by 3dRose. 3dRose products can currently be found on their 3dRose site as well as Amazon, Walmart, and Wayfair, that I know of. To locate this design on the actual 3dRose site, go to 3dRose, click on the type of product that you would like the design on - found in the left hand column, then on the next menu - scroll down to CherylsArt Hands.
